Oven-Baked French Fries With Spicy Mayo

This recipe is the first one I’ve ever developed, and it’s still my biggest crowd pleaser.  In high school, I used to have my group of friends over every weekend and make these fries for them.  I would make tons (like 6 potatoes worth) and they would disappear within minutes.  To this day, many of my friends still request that I make them before they come to my house.

These fries are full of flavor and they’re surprisingly healthy.  They have minimal oil and salt, so they won’t make you feel greasy and weighed down like traditional deep-fried french fries.  The spicy mayo dip makes them incredibly indulgent and rich despite the lack of oil and salt.  Try serving them at your next event.  They are 100% guaranteed to impress.

FAQ:

Can I make this recipe with sweet potatoes?

Yes, this recipe is absolutely delicious with sweet potatoes.  The sweet potatoes don’t get quite as crispy in the oven as russet potatoes, but the flavor is still incredible.  If you are using sweet potatoes instead of russet potatoes, bake them for an additional 10 minutes.

Can I make this recipe oil-free?

You can leave the olive oil out of this recipe if you want to make it oil free.  Your fries may not come out quite as crispy, but they will still be great!

Can I make this recipe vegan?

Yes, this recipe can easily be made vegan!  Just switch the mayonnaise in the spicy mayo dip with a vegan mayonnaise substitute.

3 tips for the best possible fries:

  1. Make sure your fries are not touching when you lay them out on the baking sheet.  This way they will be as crispy as possible.
  2. Let your fries cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.  I know it’s hard to resist the temptation to eat them straight out of the oven, but they will actually get crispier as they cool.
  3. Make sure you toss the potatoes thoroughly with the spices so that the spices are evenly distributed across all the fries.
